In the event that gas piping either in a building or underground in the streets is damaged by construction or other activities, whether or not gas is leaking, please call the Call Center immediately. All customers are reminded that any activity intended near a gas pipeline that may create a problem for the safety of the system must be approved by the gas company prior to commencement of the activity. This includes digging in the vicinity of your apartment or villa where gas lines may be buried.

Company personnel conduct periodic inspections of facilities and components and will run tests from time to time to verify that all components are functioning as specified. Inside the building, it is essential that gas is used appropriately and any leakage of gas is immediately attended to. Buildings in Dubai will be equipped with safety systems on the gas network to protect the users from various malfunctions which could impact the safe use of gas. These systems will shut off the gas supply in the event of malfunction. Additionally, all areas are equipped with gas detectors which will shut off the gas supply in the event a gas leak is detected.

It is also important to note that LPG and SNG are heavier than air and will collect near the floor if the gas leaks. Natural Gas (NG) is lighter than air and will collect near the ceiling if it leaks.

Appliances

It is very important that customers call the Call Center if one of the safety systems operates and shuts off the gas supply before re-starting the gas. Gas is a safe, reliable fuel if used correctly. If used incorrectly, gas can create a fire or explosion hazard, particularly inside a building. Additionally, improperly maintained appliances can create additional hazards by not properly burning the gas. Appliances should be regularly serviced and only qualified personnel should be allowed to work on the appliance.

It is essential that appliances are set up to use the gas that is being supplied. Natural Gas (NG) and Synthetic Natural Gas (SNG) behave differently that Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) and appliances must be properly tuned for use of either fuel.

Lootah BCGas recommends the use of appliances with full flame failure safety devices. When purchasing your appliance, ask your supplier to suggest units with these features. Full flame safety means that the gas is ignited fully automatically when the supply is turned on to any burner or oven. Additionally, the gas is re-ignited safely or the gas is shut off if for some reason the flame is extinguished when the gas is on. If an appliance without full flame safety is employed, the user must exercise considerable caution to ensure that gas is properly ignited in a timely fashion when turned on, and that the gas flame is monitored to ensure it does not go out.

Your gas equipment safety

It is important that the gas piping in your home or business is not subjected to abuse or damage. Nothing should be pushed up against gas piping or equipment and nothing should be hung or attached to gas piping or equipment. Gas equipment and shut-off valves should be unobstructed at all times. No other materials or foodstuffs should be stored in compartments with gas equipment inside.

Your gas detector is an essential safety device. The gas detector should not be obstructed by any materials and should have a clear flow of air around it at all times.

It is important to ensure that combustible materials are not stored close to any gas appliance. When operating any gas appliance the area around it should provide clear and functional access and should not create any additional hazards for the user.
